Molalla High School is actively recruiting for a Head Boys' Basketball Coach
Anticipated Start Date: August 2023
JOB GOALS:
- Help each participating student to achieve a high level of skill and knowledge of the sport.
- Instill in the participants an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.
- Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents and community.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possesses a valid First Aid card.
- Completion of an annual Bloodborne Pathogen Course.
- Possesses a high level of competence which may include prior participation in the sport, prior coaching experience, and completion of courses and/or clinics sufficient to provide the knowledge and skill to meet the performance responsibilities described below.
- Has experience teaching, working with, and/or coaching students of high school age.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Encourages good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil-teacher relationships.
- Oversees the coordination of the 7-12 program for the particular sport, including philosophy, system of play, training of coaches, and program expectations.
- Provides leadership, guidance and training for the other coaches and volunteers in the high school and middle school programs.
- Plans for and conducts organized practice sessions which actively involve all participants in conditioning, skill development and play practice.
- Ensures a fair and consistent system for determining which students make the team, what level of play a participant is assigned (varsity, JV, etc.), what position a participant plays, and how much playing time a participant is given.
- Makes recommendations to the athletic director in matters of scheduling and financing.
- Implements an effective system for ensuring the care by the participants in his/her sport and the marking of equipment and supplies. Completes and submits to the athletic director an accurate and up-to-date inventory immediately following the close of the season.
- Is responsible for the ensuring the supervision of participants wherever they may be present, including in the locker room, playing/practice area, training rooms, and on district-provided transportation. Takes all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the participants.
- Takes responsibility for the conduct of all players, assistant coaches and mangers while under his/her jurisdiction, at home or away.
- Adheres to the school and district regulations and policies regarding the conduct of coaches and student eligibility in sports. Conducts grade checks upon the request of the Athletic Director.
- Ensures that student is eligible for initial participation in the sport before the issuance of equipment or participation in practice.
- Maintains a record of all injuries and report information to the athletic director's office and the office of the principal if the athlete may require medical attention.
- Provides students and parents a team handbook which informs them about training rules, practice requirements, discipline procedures, lettering, and other school athletic policies immediately after team selection has been made.
- Works constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of an athlete's behavior and academic success.
- Submits to the athletic director:
- A complete roster of participants in his/her sport within 5 days after beginning of practice and an updated list as changes occur.
- A squad roster one week before the first game.
- A traveling team roster two days prior to an away game.
- An alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season.
- A preseason and post-season inventory of all equipment and uniforms
- Oversees all fundraising activities related to his/her sport to ensure that all board policies and regulations are being followed.
- Enforce expectations for student athletes as expressed in the Molalla High School Student Handbook.
- Adheres to policies and procedures as expressed in the Molalla High School Coaches Handbook.
- Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or Administration.
