Molalla River School District requires all staff to be fully vaccinated effective October 18, 2021 unless a religious or medical exception is approved. JOB GOALS:
- Help each participating student to achieve a high level of skill and knowledge of the sport.
- Instill in the participants an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.
- Help students achieve an increased level of self-esteem.
- Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents and community.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possesses a valid First Aid Card
- Completion of an annual Bloodborne Pathogen Course.
- Possesses a high level of competence which may include prior participation in the sport, prior coaching experience, and completion of courses and/or clinics sufficient to provide the knowledge and skill to meet the performance responsibilities described below.
- Has experience teaching, working with, and/or coaching middle school-age students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Encourages good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil-teacher relationships.
- Oversees, under the direction of the Head High School Coach, the coordination of the 6-8 program for the particular sport, including philosophy, system of play, training of coaches, and program expectations.
- Provides leadership, guidance and training for assistant coaches and volunteers in middle school program.
- Plans for and conducts organized practice sessions which actively involves all participants in conditioning, skill development and play practice.
- Ensures a fair and consistent system for determining, if necessary, who makes the team what position a participant plays, and how much playing time a participant is given.
- Makes recommendations to the athletic director in matters of scheduling and financing.
- Implements an effective system for ensuring the care and marking of equipment, supplies and by the participants in his/her sport. Completes and submits to the athletic director an accurate and up-to-date inventory immediately following the close of the season.
- Is responsible for the ensuring the supervision of participants where ever they may be present, including the locker room, playing/practice area, training rooms, and on the buses. Takes all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the participants.
- Takes responsibility for the conduct of all players and mangers while under his/her jurisdiction, at home or away.
- Adheres to the school and district regulations and policies regarding the conduct of coaches and student eligibility in middle school sports.
- Ensures that student is eligible for initial participation in the sport before the issuance of equipment or participation in practice.
- Maintains a record of all injuries and report information to the athletic director's office and the office of the principal if they may require medical attention.
- Informs students and parents in writing as to training rules, practice requirements and over all school athletic policies no later than the first day of practice.
- Works constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of an athlete's behavior and academic success.
- Submits to the athletic director:
- A complete roster of participants in his/her sport within 15 days after beginning of practice.
- A squad roster one week before the first game.
- If applicable, oversees all fundraising activities related to his/her sport to ensure that all board policies and regulations are being followed.
- Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or Administration.
