JOB GOALS:

The Elementary Instructional Coach will assist in building long-term capacity within the school setting and among school staff to ensure that all students are achieving to the best of their capabilities across content areas.  The Coach will support classroom teachers in effective implementation of high quality lesson planning, instruction and assessments in the various areas, acting as a district leader in the use of data to improve outcomes.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Holds a valid Oregon Teaching License.
  2. Knowledge of the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of children.
  3. Understands the instructional and assessment requirements necessary to assist our students in reaching the content and performance standards as targeted in the district’s education compacts.
  4. Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods.
  5. Possesses functional computer literacy, knowledge of databases and spreadsheets and an understanding of how computers can assist instruction.
  6. Maintains satisfactory attendance as defined in District policy and regulations.
  7. Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher for a minimum of three years, including expanded teacher-leader roles over time.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience at all grade levels.
  2. Skills in lesson planning based using assessment data.
  3. Knowledge of the variety of content area strands for elementary reading and math instruction.
  4. Demonstrated experience working with tiered intervention systems in academics and behavior.
  5. Ability to organize and facilitate assessment systems related to instruction.
  6. Competence in matching resources to identified needs.
  7. Successful experience in providing staff development to teachers.
  8. Previous experience in instructional coaching and mentoring.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate grade level teams of teachers to provide instructional support.
  2. Provide assistance to teachers in understanding, developing, and implementing the district adopted curriculum and supplemental mini-lessons and interventions.
  3. Develop and facilitate the use of reviewing statewide assessment strand data in order to drive instruction.
  4. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-identified professional growth activities.
  5. Develop and implement a system of formal and informal feedback for mentored professionals.
  6. Maintain professional confidentiality concerning individual student data and achievement.
  7. Participate in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or sharing expertise.
  8. Remain current with instructional research.
  9. Maintain a high level of professional integrity by adhering to the Teacher Standards and Practices requirements for an Ethical Educator (as written in the Staff Handbook) as well as Board policy and State law.
  10. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned.
  11. Supports classroom teachers with preparing for instruction, identifying both short-and long-term learning goals related to instruction.
  12. Supports classroom teachers with the implementation of appropriate instructional strategies through modeling and/or team-teaching.
  13. Provides support for adapting and modifying instructional strategies and materials, as necessary, to support all students' academic progress.
  14. Uses a variety of formal and informal assessments, including content and performance assessments, to monitor student progress and achievement of the instructional objectives.
  15. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  16. Identifies and refers students who need additional services and support.
  17. Communicates to students and parents the level of student achievement and progress towards established classroom, district, and state standards.
  18. Works constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of a student's behavior and academic success.
  19. Takes all reasonable precautions to provide a safe, secure learning environment.
  20. Participates in various meetings (e.g. staff, parent conferences, in-service training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or sharing expertise.
