Location: Clarkes Elementary School and Molalla River Middle School

 

JOB GOALS:

  1. Create a classroom environment which is safe and conducive to learning.
  2. Implement instructional strategies and programs which meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  3. Assist students in the acquisition of skills and knowledge necessary to achieve the State Benchmark Standards.
  4. Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents, and community.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Holds a valid Oregon Teaching license with the appropriate endorsements.
  2. Knowledge of best instructional and assessment practices in teaching vocal music to elementary and middle school students.
  1. Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods.
  2. Working knowledge of the voice at assigned levels.
  3. Conduct music accurately and expressively with self-confidence.
  4. Functional knowledge of sound and stage equipment and related technology.
  5. Maintains satisfactory attendance as defined in District policy and regulations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensures that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to District and school goals and objectives.
  2. Teaches students to sing well-formed vowels and a clear, free, focused, in-tune sound.
  3. Conducts rehearsals and performances - demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of music.
  4. Presents performances of high musical quality for the school and community in which groups are well-disciplined and make a good appearance.
  5. Provides instructional activities and materials which best meet individual and group skills and needs.
  6. Designs or selects and uses planned sequences of instruction so that students acquire skills in vocal technique and music reading.
  7. In preparation for instruction, addresses both short- and long-term learning goals.

Shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.

  1. Ensures that music and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored and that inventory records are accurate and current.
  2. Conducts interesting and well-paced lessons using a variety of instructional techniques and materials appropriate to the lesson.
  3. Uses a variety of formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress and achievement of the instructional objectives. Provides feedback promptly and often regarding their progress.
  4. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  5. Uses a grading system which is consistent, fair and supportable.
  6. Maintains professional confidentiality concerning individual student data and achievement.
  7. Communicates to students and parents the level of student achievement and progress towards established classroom, district, and state standards.
  8. Works constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of a student's behavior and academic success.
  9. Maintains professional competence through in service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  10. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment. Notifies and involves parents/guardians regarding a student's behavior as outlined in school and District policies.
  11. Takes all reasonable precautions to provide a safe, secure learning environment.
  12. Maintains a high level of professional integrity by adhering to the Teacher Standards and Practices requirements for an Ethical Educator, (as written in the Staff Handbook), as well as Board Policy and State Law.
  13. Participates in various meetings (e.g. staff, team, parent conferences, in-service training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or sharing expertise.
  14. Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or Administration.
