Job Goal:  the position of “Dean of Students” is for the purpose/s of overall student management and dealing with student attendance issues.  Other needs and processes may also be assigned by the building administration.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.

 

1.  Holds a valid Oregon Elementary/Secondary teaching license and/or administrative license.

2.  At least three (3) successful years as a teacher.

3.  Ability to maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines.

4.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.

5.  Ability to communicate with appropriate student age group requiring the use of both empathetic and disciplinary approaches.

6.  Ability to use judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems in determining and prioritizing the necessary actions.

7.  Genuine enjoyment and understanding of children and awareness of general purposes and goals of public education.

8.  Willingness to operate according to policies and procedures.

9.  Ability to investigate situations involving students and take preventative or corrective actions.

10. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with student, parents, teachers and administrators.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: including the following.  Other duties may also be assigned.

 

1.  Manage student supervision issues and enforce school behavioral expectations.

2.  Counsel students and parents about school and district policies.

3.  Assists staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations.

4.  Assist in the planning, development, and implementing of individual student behavior plans.

5.  Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues.

6.  Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies.

7.  Confers appropriate consequences for behavior including detention, in school suspension and out of school suspension.

8.  Assist in monitoring and supervision of school facilities.

9.  Provide supervision at co-curricular and athletic events.

10. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Board or Administration.
