Postition serves Molalla High School
JOB GOAL: To assist the Head Custodian in overseeing the school physical plant and grounds to ensure their cleanliness, safety, well maintained, and provide a positive learning environment for students and to supervise the night crew.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.
- High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education
- Two years experience in school custodial work
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and
in writing) with students, parents, and teachers
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Possess supervisory skills, ability to train, schedule and supervise custodial staff and substitutes
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in building service work
- Ability to supervise the night custodians and serve as a back up to supervisory responsibilities of the head custodian
- Familiarity with handling of and disposal of hazardous materials, ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill, efficiently, and safety
- Ability to supervise or perform light maintenance and repairs (i.e., plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.)
- Ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines, while maintaining schedules
and attending to details
- Perform physical requirements which may include:
- Moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 Ibs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, bending
- Exposure to conditions where heating, cooling, and ventilation may be inadequate at times
- May require exposure to chemicals and the possibility of electrical shock
- Ability to operate buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and other equipment
- Ability to climb ladders, stretch and bend to perform cleaning, repairs, painting, cleaning roof, gutters, and drains
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids in cleaning due to student illness or injury
- Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.
- Supervise night custodians and perform essential duties of custodians, sweeping, dusting, mopping, buffing, scrubbing, sanitizing, vacuuming, etc.
- Supervise and perform light maintenance and repairs, plumbing, carpentry, painting, replacing light bulbs, moving furniture and materials, etc.
- Prepare work schedules and insure the work is completed on time, is in accordance with instructions and meets district standards
- Assume responsibility for the daily closing of school facilities
- Provide training in safety, use of hazardous materials, use of equipment and custodial methodology, etc.
- Confer with the head custodian regarding care and cleaning programs for the school building
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student and
staff information
- Participate in in-service programs as assigned
- Possess capabilities required by the custodian position
- Know safe procedures for working around asbestos
- Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
- Must possess and maintain a valid First Aid card
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
- Valid Oregon Driver's License
- Limited Maintenance Industrial/Electrical License (preferred)
